follow up

first of all i think you guys are under the impression that i am somehow passionate about the things i write on this website, unless it's about people who's names start with r and end in i could care less. i found it interesting that gates has been knighted, and a common theme in pop culture is potrarying gates as a money hungry nerd on a power trip.... who cuts his own hair. but you people as always missed the point that i didn't actually mean any of it. IT was A JOKE. if i actually cared about the subject i may have researched it, and tried to be politically correct. of course he's not an asshole, but you don't know that he isn't an asshole either. you can't base an opinion on what the media tells you because the media is garbage people. garbage. when people talk about brad and jennifer breaking up and have a serious discussion as to why they broke up and go under the psycology of it all; i want to snap their necks. because they only know what the mdeia wants to sell them on... and it has absolutely no effect on their lives whatsoever... but that's beside the point.

fools

oh and the wealth distribution issue while a very important aspect to economic welfare is not due to bill gates alone, however with that said, it is due to people like bill gates with a ridiculous amount of money while there are other people who cna't even afford subsistence. if wealth were more evenly distributed it would mean that everyone in general would be better off... that's not capititalism, nor is that survival of the fittest, if j.b. clark heard me say that he's called me a pinko commi and try arresting me. but that's cool.

i would also like to take the time to explain to you people that i think you have me confused with someone who actually cares about other people's opinions. because i don't, especially when they contradict mine.

let the hate burn.

  • I hate you.
"subsistence" I think you might mean sustinance. But what do I know.

  • jay that brad and jen remark wasn't aimed at you, it was two girls i overheard one day. if thats not the reason that you hate me. then sweet. it's all good.

  • i think the #1 deterrant of people thinking you aren't joking is the lack of funny.

And the lack of context surrounding your exaggerated claims about character that seem more like a personal attack than any identifiable wit

perhaps even funnier, is that you presume we care and that we presume you care, which is all rather presumptuous, wouldn't you say?

  • PS, while you are going to wax pseudo-marxist keep in mind that America and other Western Democratic nations of the most even distrubution of wealth that the civilized world has ever seen, so "blaming" bill gates and other "conglamerate wealth whores" is a little self defeating

people make more on Welfare in North America than they do with real jobs in 80-90% of other countries in the world.

and you've made it quite clear you don't care. But at least be apathetic with the right information.

  • joel.

i was merely bringin up the issue of extremely poor people out there that are stuck in poverty, the martimes specifically lab and newfoundland are filled with people too dumb to move somewhere else but are near starvation, because they cna't find jobs to support their ridiculously huge famlies.

welfare doesn't cover it, and welfare does have alot of conditions and restrictions behind it.

with that siad, it's 100 billion times better in canada than it is in almost any other ocuntry i agree whole heartedly.

but what iw as getting at was, it's forcasted by peter dooley and mankiw that the wealth distribution is heading towards a greater inequality in the coming years. 40 years ago no one in the world had a billion dollars the most would be hundreds of millions 50 billion was just unthinkable. and in 40 years inflation has not increased enough to equate 50 billion.

take it or leave it. once again you cna't beleive everything you read so what i just said may be garbage or it may not be.

i cna't remember my login name and i haven't left the school in like forever. and won't be home till 11 when the security guards kick mye out of the library like last night.

    "sir the library is closing"

"oh is that why the lights are off?"

    "hurry up"

    god dammit.

  • 40 years ago tons of people had the equivilent of billions of dollars

if you missed aviator because you were too busy coming all over Clint Eastwood, then you might have forgotten about Howard Hughs

and then those insufferable royal familes, as well as many other rich tycoons from Europe (decendants of powerful Dukes still have billions of dollars in some cases) as well as Americans. Using the handy inflaction calculater at inflationdata.com, i found that in 40 years (the number you arbitrarily picked) inflation has increassed 511%. which means that people worth about 200 million in 1965, were worth over a billion. And trust me, there were many people with at least 200 million dollars.

"he winner? Rockefeller. When he died in 1937, his estimated $1.4 billion net worth constituted a healthy 1.53 percent of the GNP, which is about $153 billion by contemporary standards"

oh yea, 50 billion was UNTHINKABLE 40 years ago!

The best part of all, is that you condemn him for dissappropriating wealth and causing severages in wealth distribution, but if he gives millions of dollars to charity to rectify that, then you condemn him for wanting 'tax breaks'

you just love to jump on the hate train

By Blogger joe, at 5:16 PM

  • oh, and i forgot this interesting tid-bit

"The $54 billion fortune of Bill Gates is enough to purchase about what the U.S. economy produces in two days. Not bad, to be sure. But it is a pretty low achievement for tycoondom, historically speaking."

these are from the Robb Report.

By Blogger joe, at 5:18 PM

  • You ever hear of JJ Astor? He was worth over 25 million dollars in 1835, you should do the math for what he would be worth now, because I'm pretty sure that he would be a billionare.

For someone who doesn't care much you sure do attempt to write good responses... ("attempt to" being the key phrase in that sentence)

    You Goddamn Pinko Commie...

  • evan i hope your children are gay

By Blogger Doc, at 8:21 PM

  • and joel the wealth distribution goes up and down, and it's heading towards a peak again.

By Blogger Doc, at 8:22 PM

  • So you're bitching about a cyclical characteristic of a capitalist economy? Why don't you go cry some more about the business cycle? Actually, you can probably cry about the cyclical demographics of canadian society, that's at least a good thing to bitch about because our entire generation is going to get screwed by the old fuckers on medicare.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:31 PM

  • but at least we'll have jobs to pay taxes with!

By Blogger joe, at 9:58 PM

  • No I didn't think the brad and jen remark was pointed at me, although the first time I found out about it my brother simply said "hey jay guess who broke up?"
    *instant response
    "Brad and Jen?"
but yea I hate you more in the I don't like telling people I know you kind of way. Cept not really at all, I just thought I hate you would be an appropriate response for some reason, maybe I was drunk. Yea that seems to make sense.

  • Even though a good argument Joel (way up there). Us Western Democratic nations are not even close to the "most even distrubution of wealth that the civilized world has ever seen". If you look at Mayan civ or Azteck civ or even early roman/Mesopotamian/Sumerian etc. They all distributed their wealth a great deal more efficiently that we ever have/will. And yes the Mayan's Az's were civilized societies, with libraries, schools universities etc.

yes but lets say in 1960 you had 1 billion you'd only have 5 billion since then... not 50 billion, dipshit.

it was pretty hard to think about someone owning 50 billions dollars, or even someone owning two tv's. so don't give me that.

it would need to be a 5000 percent change for 1 billion to change to 50 billion. has inflation gone up by 5000% joel? no.

anyone who thinks joel brings up good points with his misuse of information should stop posting asap.

    nice try

and rockafella is the equivlent of bill gates, established a ridiculous monopoly, and that was common in the early history of the usa.

    anyway this topic is dead.
